Semi-permanent makeup, ❤ Eyebrows - first week healing process.

If like me, you over plucked your eyebrows when you were younger and they just haven't grown back the same - or if you just aren't entirely happy with your own natural eyebrow shape; I would without a doubt recommend having this treatment done.

For anyone who knows me; knows that I have had semi-permanent eyebrows for around four years now and I absolutely love them.

Semi-permanent make up is performed exactly the same way as a tattoo with an airbrush type gun - although the pigment is only added to the very top layer of your skin - the dermal layer. This enables the coloured pigment to fade with time! (You wouldn't want the same shape brows when you're 70 would you...)

When I first arrived to have my eyebrows tattooed three years ago, I was slightly worried with what to expect. A 'tattoo on your face' does sound slightly crazy, but I can assure you its not. My treatment started with a consultation - this was to decide on the shape and colour which would most suit me. I already had an idea of what I wanted, the technicians job was to then perfect it for me. She began by drawing them on with pencil, and I told her if I was happy with the shape or if I wanted anything changed. 

Remember, this is your face so you need to be completely honest!

30 minutes before the procedure begins, a numbing cream was applied to my eyebrows just to ease any minimal discomfort. 

NONE of my natural hair was removed before or after the tattooing, which is something that people tend to get confused with. So, yes I do still have my natural eyebrow hair; as well as a perfect outline 24/7 ;-)

Personally I did not think that the procedure was painful at any point throughout, the only way I can describe it is that it feels like a slight scratching sensation. The only time I felt a small amount of soreness was when the needle went back over a part that had just been freshly tattooed - and apart from feeling the need to sneeze at times due to the area being tattooed - I found it strangely relaxing.

There are two options for eyebrow tattooing:

hair line strokes - for a more natural hair look.

block eyebrow technique - for a stronger but still natural look.

The Healing Process

For the first week, the pigment should look a lot darker and slightly thicker than how they will actually look once they are healed. Redness and scabbing is completely normal. I must admit, I hate that week. Almost-black eyebrows do not suit me - so I am always relieved once they are healed and it is so worth it. 

Day 1 of healing - quite dark - no scabbing just slightly swollen and sore to touch. I cover them in Vaseline so that they don't dry out.

Day 4 of healing - the flaking and itching starts around now, do not itch or pick them. Keep applying tattoo balm/Vaseline!

Day 6 of healing (Bad lighting) - the ugliest stage of healing! Still flaking/scabbing in some areas, other areas you will be able to see that the tattoo is visible.

Voilà -

 Perfect brows.

Sometimes a retouch might be needed after a few weeks just to go over any of the colour which the skin may not have taken to - this is completely normal. Although I have only ever needed a retouch in my first year of having them tattooed.

I have my eyebrows retouched once a year. They don't always need retouching after a year, but I just prefer mine done as often as possible to keep the colour - as mine fade slightly within the year. (Fussy, I know.)

I hope this helps some of you that are thinking about having semi-permanent make up done! 

Lip liner, eye liner and lip colour are also available to be performed semi-permanently!
